Audiology is the Science of Hearing It is the evaluation of hearing, hearing and balance system. Developing and applying appropriate tools, methods and techniques and interpreting the results so that this assessment can be made in clinical or experimental settings; implementation of appropriate improvement methods (hearing aid/cochlear implant/auditory education/vestibular rehabilitation) in hearing loss and balance problems; The preparation and implementation of hearing protection and early intervention programs (newborn hearing screenings, noise protection programs) constitute the working areas of audiology.

The application authority of the field of audiology, science and health is represented by the professional staff called "audiologist". Audiologist is a profession defined and officially recognized by the state of the Republic of Turkey as of 2011. It was inevitable to start undergraduate education in the field of Audiology due to the wide service area and the scarcity of trained personnel.

Audiologist:

a) Determines, selects and programs the devices to be used for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of hearing and balance diseases and the rehabilitation of hearing, with the guidance of the specialist physician.

b) Carries out studies for the protection of hearing health and the prevention of hearing loss.

c) Takes part in hearing screening programs and performs the tests in these programs.

ç) Makes necessary suggestions about the protection of hearing by making noise measurements.

d) During surgical procedures, if the surgeon deems it necessary, he/she performs nerve monitoring related to hearing and balance.

e) Makes device adjustments during and after surgery for devices implanted in the ear.

f) Performs auditory perception evaluation and rehabilitation.

g) Takes part in the preparation of hearing-related training programs. The Audiology department, opened within the Faculty of Health Sciences of our university, provides four-year undergraduate education. Its graduates are given the title of 'audiologist'. Audiologists have a wide range of work areas, mainly in hospitals, the private sector, universities, private education institutions and the government.
