CINEMA AND TELEVISION DEPARTMENT

With its comprehensive curriculum, Bahçeşehir University Cinema and Television Department offers a four-year education aimed at providing our students with knowledge, insight and perspective in line with the development of film production practices from past to present. While we provide our students with both theoretical and practical training on film production, we aim to provide an experience in which they will effectively use the distribution and display tools developed with today's technology of this production. Our interdisciplinary approach brings together the skills that our students can use to evaluate all the opportunities they will encounter in their professional lives, regardless of the field of specialization they choose. During their four-year education, our students will create films and interactive digital media products while examining the cultural impact of movies, television and the internet on societies. In this way, to teach our students the creative language of motion picture by using the possibilities of technology; In addition to our aim to establish the theoretical infrastructure that will enable them to develop and transform this language, we also aim to convey to them the change created by digitalization and to train them as competent professionals in this direction in their professional lives. We have changed our course content in this direction in our education, which combines art and technological progress. TARGET

It is our priority to train professionals who realize the transformation of the cinema and television industry in our country as well as in the rest of the world, adapt themselves to this transformation and thus direct the production in these sectors. PROGRAM In order to graduate from Bahçeşehir University, it is necessary to complete a course load of 130 credits. In the first two years, our students are equipped with a comprehensive course program on cinema and television practice and theories, apart from psychology, sociology, visual art history and communication theories, which the professional who will become an opinion leader in the future takes in order to get to know the world, human nature and his country in the best way. In addition to courses such as history of cinema and film theory, world cinema, it provides our students with experience in audio-visual production with practical-based courses such as photography, directing, digital editing, screenwriting, camera and light, documentary cinema. In the third and fourth grades, in order to guide our students in branching professionally, they need production, post-production, advanced editing, advanced scenario, We offer a pool of elective courses such as cinematography, short film production, FX make-up, art direction. The elective courses in the third year are Departmental Elective, Non-departmental and General Elective courses, and these courses aim to strengthen the student's view of the world and provide additional skills. The student can also take COOP courses, which are conducted in cooperation with the sector. In addition to all these opportunities, our students in the 3rd and 4th grades have the opportunity to do internships in the leading companies of the sector within the scope of the joint education model of our faculty during the academic year. Thus, they have the opportunity to experience the academic education they have received in the field. Our Cinema and TV Department students graduate by producing 8 short films during their 4-year education period. 4.

LABORATORIES

In the Cinema and Television Department, there are high-definition digital cameras, light and sound equipment, and lapel microphones that our students can use for four years. Besides, -2. We have three advanced editing and composing studios on the 1st floor, 1 television studio, our greenbox studio on the 3rd floor, our Vlog studio created in line with the agreement we made with Sony, and a digital editing studio with 6 mac computers and always open for the use of our students. In addition to all these, most of our practical lessons are seen in our mac and pc laboratory classes.

MISSION

The history of cinema should be considered together with the history of technological developments. With each new technology, cinema has acquired a new narrative style. Today, cultural production is organized according to the innovations in communication technologies. Digital technology has changed the conditions of the traditional film industry. Technological development affects our cultural world more and more every day. Changing conditions open up an independent production space for the artist; changing movie watching practices. Audio-visual production prepared with mobile phones in the digital age reaches more and more people with social media platforms that are increasing day by day. In short, it has become possible for any idea to be revealed as a movie or a television show. As our Faculty's Department of Cinema and Television, we are keeping up with the transformation with an interdisciplinary education program where we aim for our students to follow this transformation in the age of digital transformation. Turkey is the second most important TV series exporter in the world after the United States. We aim to train young cinema and television professionals who have the knowledge and ability to keep up with such a vibrant industry, who can comprehend the sectoral transformation and needs not only in Turkey but also in the world, and who can direct themselves and the industry in this direction.

CINEMA AND TELEVISION PROGRAM OUTCOMES

ADVANTAGES OF BEING FROM BAHÇEŞEHİR

The city is a constantly changing and transforming structure like a living organism. A communicator must exist in life itself in order to follow the change in daily life. Since our university is in a very advantageous location in terms of location, our students can follow the changing world in a metropolis like Istanbul throughout their education life. Our university has a very strong staff with faculty members recognized throughout Turkey. Bahcesehir University is the only university in Turkey with a registered university and campus abroad from those countries. Currently, our university's sister universities, BAU-Germany, are located in Berlin and BAU-USA in Washington. Both universities have campuses and facilities in these cities. There is also an English language school in Washington. A student who wins Bahçeşehir University can attend the Preparatory School in Washington and study the first and second grades in Turkey, if he/she wishes. The programs of Bahçeşehir Istanbul and its sister universities are completely compatible with each other. With this structure, BAU is the only university that allows global students to complete their education not only in Turkey, but also in the two most important centers of the world, such as the EU and the USA. Bahçeşehir University is working on expanding this system to other countries, especially Hong-Kong, in the near future. Apart from this, Bahçeşehir University has student exchange agreements with more than 50 universities in the world, and our students can also benefit from the Erasmus program if they wish. As the Cinema and Television Department, we have been participating in the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival with our student films since 2015. In 2022, we were selected as a pilot school from Turkey by the International Sarajevo Film Festival. Our students receive accreditation at these festivals and attend workshops, interviews and film screenings. Bahçeşehir University is the first university in Turkey to actualize university-industry/business cooperation. This cooperation is carried out within the framework of the COOP program. By taking lessons from the employees of the leading companies of the sector such as Netflix, BluTV, Sony, TV8, Habertürk, Cinema 8, Power FM, which we have agreed upon within the framework of the COOP program, they can follow the hot developments in the sector and introduce themselves to the professionals of the profession during the lessons. Officials from real television channels, SVOD platforms, advertising and production agents that we have agreed upon within the framework of the COOP program come to the university for 14 weeks, teach the students how things are done in their own institutions, and take the students to their own institutions for ten sites (on-site) teaching.

Our graduates; They can find job opportunities in various departments of television channels, film and series production companies, advertising agencies, post-production companies in all positions, and they can also establish their own companies or agents.
