Abstract

Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries may not be as benign as previously anticipated, yet the literature on PCL injuries is sparse compared to that of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Over the past two decades, however, advances in basic science and clinical research have elucidated a greater understanding of the natural history, anatomy, biomechanics, evaluation, and treatment of PCL injuries. This chapter reviews several principles relating to the diagnosis and treatment of PCL injuries, with a focus on current concepts involving workup, diagnosis, surgical versus nonsurgical management, operative techniques, and rehabilitation strategies following PCL injury.
