Abstract
Creativity is the ability to think in novel and unusual ways about the possible solutions to various problems. Considering creativity instruction, teachers are agents of change who are expected to facilitate independent learning, construct stimulating environments for critical and creative thinking, and role model creativity-fostering behavior. Specifically, how well they play this role relies on whether they demonstrate creativity fostering behavior when interacting with their students. In a creativity-fostering classroom, teachers promote creative thinking by providing choices, rewarding different ideas and products, encouraging sensible risks, and emphasizing students' strengths and interests. In short, teachers are in a strategic position to empower creativity of their students. However, not all teachers are equipped with such capacity-building behavior. They may and may not be conscious of how their own behavior can influence that of their students where creativity is concerned. Therefore, they need be aware of their impact on student creativity, and they also need to be trained to demonstrate creativity fostering behavior in their classroom practices. This chapter aims to emphasize the importance of fostering creativity in classrooms by emphasizing recent theories and approaches for creative pedagogy and provide pedagogical implications on fostering student creativity in alpha classrooms.
